Frequently
Asked Questions |
What is
Muay Thai?
Muay Thai, also known as Thai Boxing, originated in
Thailand and dates back thousands of years.
The system utilizes punches and kicks, as well as
incorporating elbows, knees and grappling techniques.
Each part of a Thai fighter’s body is a potentially
lethal weapon, making Muay Thai the most brutal of ring
sports. Fights are fought over five three-minute rounds
with a two-minute rest period in between. Boxing gloves,
groin protector, gum shield, Thai boxing trunks, hand
wrappings and cotton anklets are worn for competition
bouts.
In a Muay Thai contest, a fighter can punch and kick an
opponent’s leg, body or head using any part of the leg,
knee or elbow to the face or body.
Although punches can result in a knockout, these do not
score high points from Thai judges, who instead look for
spectacular performance in attack and defence with the
use of kicks, knees and elbow strikes.
Muay Thai is acknowledged
as one of the most effective forms of martial arts,
students participate in Muay Thai for fitness,
competition and self-defence.

Are the classes strictly for beginners?
Yes! Our beginner’s program is setup strictly for beginners and are taught
using our unique beginner's syllabus, designed to build self-confidence,
technique, fitness and coordination of students before the progression to more
specialize areas of the art.
Are owning gloves and leg protection essential for the
beginner's class?
No equipment is required for the beginner's sessions until your induction is completed, after that information will be given as to necessary equipment.
What should I wear?
Anything that is
comfortable, we recommend comfortable exercise shorts or bottoms and a
t-shirt.
I am not very fit at
the moment so would this be too hard for me?
There are no special fitness requirements to take part
in any of our programs.
Each program is set up to improve your fitness level
along with a greater awareness and self-confidence, this
is the whole aim of our programs.
I have been looking for a place that does a kickboxing course near me for ages and I would love to do it.
But I am only 15 years old and on the site I noticed it described this, as a
'program for adults' will my age be a problem?
The minimum age for participation on the beginners kickboxing course
is 14 years with parental consent.
Also will I have to book to get on the course or can I just turn up?
You can turn up on the day and book onto the course however, it is advisable to book in advance because there are only a set number of places available on each course.
I was wondering if your classes are geared more
towards kickboxing as a good cardio workout as other
programs I have seen are?
This is not a cardio kickboxing session however fitness
circuits are included in the program to condition your
body and mind. Our programs will teach you the
techniques of Muay Thai kickboxing i.e. how to perform
and block punches, kicks, knees and elbows.
Do you hold continuous classes to progress over years to a high standard?
Our programs are developed so that you progress at a
steady pace, for example we recommend that you start
your training with our beginner’s Thai/kickboxing
program and then move on to the Improvers section and
finally the Intermediate/Advance Thai/kickboxing program as you see continuous progression.
